The region

The Veluwe is without doubt one of the most beautiful areas for gravel cycling. The Veluwe is the largest Dutch nature reserve and consists of forests, heaths and sand drifts. The southern part consists of moraines and has therefore a slightly hilly character. There are many unpaved roads across this nature reserve that take you from one beautiful place to another. For example, the largest sand drift area in Western Europe, or Kroondomein het Loo, the hunting grounds of our king. But the heaths and country estates are also a pleasure to cycle through. With a bit of luck you can spot wild boar or red deer, Highlanders cattles, foxes and nowadays even the wolf during your trips. Cycling for kilometres on unpaved roads through the heath, on narrow forest paths and on shifting sand areas with the occasional climbs and with a bit of luck some 'wildlife'. Combine this with the idyllic accommodations and a nice ‘after-beer’ and you have all the ingredients for a wonderful gravel adventure.
